The relationship between women's anxiety during pregnancy and labor outcomes in Larestan hospitals (2009). 3 2010; 1 (1) :11-21

Background & Objective: in regard to importance of maternal mental health and its effect on forming neonatal health , the main purposes of this article were assessment the effects of maternal anxiety on pregnancy outcome and neonatal' health .

Materials & Methods: A descriptive-analytical study was done to determine relationship between variables and a convenience sampling procedure adapted in order to select subjects (n=150).  State and trait anxiety inventory, health assessment checklist and demographic variables form  were applied and completed by subjects immediately after stabilizations of theirs post partum conditions.

Results: The mean of state and trait anxiety scores in pregnant women were 42.26 ± 13.33 and 38.70± 10.75 respectively. There were a relationship between period of pregnancy and trait anxiety score (r =-0/190, p= <.05) and between number of children and stat anxiety score (r=-0/178, p= <.05). Also a significant relationship was found(p= < .05) between previous history of abortion and stat & trait anxiety scores, pregnancy interest and stat & trait anxiety scores, previous history of Dystocia and trait anxiety score, previous history of low birth weight and trait anxiety score.

Conclusion: ultimately,  According to the results of this study we can conclude that maternal mental status could affect pregnancy outcomes and neonatal' health.
