Background and Objective: Chronic diseases are diseases that are often progressive and can be controlled with continuous care and behavior change. Orem's theory is one of the most widely used and controversial nursing theories known, which involves the patient in care and emphasizes self-care. The aim of this study is to review different studies that have used the Orem self-care model in chronic disease nursing.
Methods: This study is a narrative review study conducted in 2024. Data collection was carried out by searching with the keywords Orem, self-care, Nursing Care, Chronic diseases in international databases PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, Scopus and in local databases SID, Magiran, Iran Medex with the keywords self-care, Orem, chronic diseases, nursing care from December 2015 to February 2025.
Findings: In this study, 9180 articles were obtained in the initial search, of which 60 articles were excluded due to duplication, 9120 were reviewed in terms of title, then the abstracts of 120 articles were reviewed, and finally 21 articles were fully reviewed and analyzed.
Conclusion: Based on a review of studies conducted on the application of Orem's self-care model in chronic diseases, it was found that this care model can be applied to different chronic diseases and different countries with different methods, and is effective in controlling chronic diseases.
