Abstract
Background and Objectives: With the start of the corona pandemic, the quality and quantity of midwifery clinical training will inevitably change, which can affect the health of pregnant women and their babies. The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the degree of achievement of clinical courses objectives from the point of view of midwifery professors and undergraduate students in the conditions of the Corona pandemic.
Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study all 4th, 6th and 8th semester midwifery students (70 people) and all midwifery professors of Hamadan Nursing and Midwifery Faculty (20 people) were investigated by total population sampling. Data collection was done using a demographic information form and a 6-part researcher-made questionnaire to evaluate the degree of achievement of internship goals. Data analysis was done through descriptive and inferential statistical tests using SPSS/23 software.
Findings: Midwifery professors considered the highest rate of goal fulfillment related to natural pregnancy training 1 with 88.9% and the lowest rate related to pregnancy training 2 and 3, 41.2%. This rate was 68.4% in the opinion of 4th semester students in prenatal emergency training and it was in an average level. In the 6th semester, prenatal care and maternal and child health internships with 80% rate, and in the 8th semester, the childbirth internships 2 and 3 with a rate of 85.7%, had the highest realization rate. There was no statistically significant difference in the achievement of goals in all educational fields in 6th and 8th semester students (P>0.05).
Conclusion: The educational objectives are well covered in most of the midwifery clinical courses, despite the conditions of the Corona epidemic. Critical conditions like Corona can cause limitations and challenges in realizing some goals of clinical education. Since the mission of midwifery education is to ensure the health of pregnant women and their babies as much as possible, it is recommended to pay attention to clinical midwifery education especially in the challenges caused by crises like this.
