Background &aim:Given the importance of the mixed method research in the future of nursing research, it is ‎necessary to examine the challenges faced by nursing researchers and provide solutions to get to the bottom of ‎problems in this area. ‎The aim of this study is to provide  a brief overview of the mixed method research and its challenges in ‎nursing.‎
Material and Methods: This study was performed by reviewing and searching in reliable databases such as Google Scholar, ‎PubMed, Ovid, Magiran, SID, with the keywords mixed method research and nursing and its corresponding words in both Persian and English between ‎the years 2000-2019.‎
Results: In this paper, we tried to introduce the summary of mixed method ‎research, history, definition, reasons, advantages and disadvantages as well as assessing the most important typology presented in the ‎nursing and addressing challenges in the design and implementation of mixed method research. ‎
Conclusion: The most important challenge in the field of mixed method research in nursing is the lack of a ‎comprehensive and effective guideline to designing and implementing these studies. Therefore, it is highly recommended ‎todesign the appropriate guidelines in order to guide young researchers in conducting mixed method ‎research.
