Background & objectives: One of important new roles for care giver especially nurses is prescribing. Nurse’s prescription consider as a professionalization factors for nursing care. The purpose of this article was to provide a comprehensive overview of all research on the nurse’s prescription throughout Iran. Using the documentation, reports and articles published in this context, the authors review the nurse’s prescription in Iran.
Materials & Methods: This systematic review study was conducted to find the studies regarding Iranian nurses prescribing via searching in Persian databases (MagIran, SID, and IranMedex) and English databases (Google Scholar, Web of Science, Medline, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Scopus) using a combination of Persian and English keywords, nurses prescription, nursing prescribing and Iran with no time limitation.
Results: Out of 81 articles obtained after careful review, 4 articles directly related to nursing prescription in Iran were included in this study. All 4 studies were qualitative. According to the literature review, prescribing in nursing has become more and more popular in recent years.
Conclusion: Although the attention to nursing prescription in Iran has increased in recent studies, the lack of research in this area still needs more attention. Studies aimed at designing, applying and evaluating different methods of implementing nursing prescribing processes and adopting laws supporting nursing prescribing are recommended.
