Background and Objectives: The use of artificial intelligence provides innovations for the performance of nursing care, reducing errors in patient care. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the level of nurses' attitude towards the applications of artificial intelligence in hospitals under the supervision of Abadan University of Medical Sciences in 2023.
Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 2002. 208 nurses working in the hospitals under supervision of Abadan University of Medical Sciences were surveyed by census method and with informed consent during three months. They completed a researcher-made attitude questionnaire consisting of 11 questions regarding applications of artificial intelligence. The questionnaire was adjusted based on a 5-point Likert scale from completely disagree (1) to completely agree (5), and its validity and reliability were assessed. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent t-tests and analysis of variance with spss software version 26.
Results: In this study, 208 nurses with an average age of 35.51 ± 9.59 years were investigated, and the mean attitude level of the nurses was 33.82 ± 4.07 which showed 177 people (88.5%) of average attitude and 11 people (5.5%) of a very positive attitude towards the applications of artificial intelligence in nursing. 121 people (58.17 %) agreed that it plays an important role in nursing care, and it is noteworthy that 38 people (18.26 %) believed that nursing performance and its working environment is disturbed. In terms of demographic variables including age, sex, work experience and place of service, none were significantly associated with nurses' attitudes towards artificial intelligence (p>0.05).
Conclusion: The results of this study illustrated that the nurses’ attitude towards the application of artificial intelligence is average. Policymakers should develop a formal AI training program for healthcare personnel, which can be an important step in successful implementation and development.
