Background and Objective: Caregiving burden and perceived stress in family caregivers of stroke patients are influential components in providing quality care to these patients. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the correlation between caregiving burden and perceived stress in family caregivers of stroke patients.
Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, 60 family caregivers of stroke patients were studied at Ayatollah Kashani Hospital in Shahrekord in 2025. The caregiving burden and perceived stress of the samples were examined using the Zarit Caregiving Burden Questionnaire and the Cohen PSS-14 Standard Perceived Stress Questionnaire.
The Modified Rankin Scale was also used as one of the inclusion criteria to assess the functional status of stroke patients. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 21 software (frequency, mean and standard deviation, independent t-test, Pearson correlation and linear regression) at a significance level of less than 0.05.
Results: The results of the study showed that the mean and standard deviation of the scores of caregiving burden and perceived stress were 50.01 ± 7.73 and 29.30 ± 4.24, respectively, which means that caregiving burden and perceived stress were above average. It was also found that there was a direct and statistically significant relationship between caregiving burden and perceived stress (p=0/003) (r=0/304).
Conclusion: Increased caregiving burden can lead to increased perceived stress among family caregivers of stroke patients. It is suggested that healthcare providers focus on reducing their caregiving burden and perceived stress by providing appropriate training, thus playing an effective role in increasing their physical and psychological stability.
