Assessment of frequency of physical problem in children 7-11 years old in foster care centers. 3 2010; 1 (1) :90-101

Bachground & Objectives: Every year thousands of children are accepted in the foster care centre because of several reasons. Most children are placed in foster care because of neglect, physical abuse, parental substance abuse, divorce and social- economic poverty. On the other hand, entry to these foster care centers and living in these centre, faced children with a lot of behavioral and health problems. In regard to this issue for assessing physical health status of 7-11 years children living in foster care centers in Tehran.

Materiales & Methods : We performed a cross sectional study with 105 children (57 boy, 48girl). In this research, sampling was of type census and required information about child physical health was obtained by the physical exams based on  child health assessment form , study and assessment of child healt files and sometimes consultment with physicians .

Resultes: Result have shown that most frequent type of physical  problem in these children was as follows:periodontal problems(90/5persent), skin(76/2persent),eyes(51/4persent),and respiratory system(40/1persent). Ki-scoare test showed that between physical health  and sex , age and duration of stay in these centers was no meaningfull relation.

Conclusion: On the basis of these finding and results of researches in other contries, full attention and health facility should be given to these group of children and more studies to survey of factor that affected on their health has been recommended.
