Introduction: The landscape of healthcare education has undergone profound transformation in recent years, and media has emerged as a powerful tool for raising awareness and educating renal patients. In the current era, health technologies can empower hemodialysis patients to take care of themselves in addition to monitoring their health status. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of media in teaching self-care skills to hemodialysis patients.
Method: This study is a systematic review conducted in 2025. In order to collect data for this systematic review, a database search was conducted with the keywords hemodialysis, renal dialysis, end-stage renal disease, maintenance hemodialysis, media, social media, digital health, multimedia, online education, mobile health, self-care, self-management, health literacy, treatment adherence, patient education in the international databases PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, Google Scholar ,Web OF Science and in the Persian databases SID, Magiran, Iran Medex from December 2015 to February 2025. The research team reviewed the abstracts of the articles according to the study objectives and then reviewed the articles based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Findings: The study findings show that in most studies, the use of media had a positive effect on learning self-care teachings in hemodialysis patients.
Conclusion: Web-based education is more effective in increasing self-efficacy and self-care abilities in renal failure patients. Providing education through the web platform in a phased and continuous manner can promote healthy behaviors.
