Background and Objectives: Resilience enhances students' ability to cope with difficult situations and academic challenges. Studies regarding the resilience of nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia have reported mixed results. This inconsistency highlights the need for a systematic review to clarify the status of resilience among Asian nursing students during the pandemic and to identify the factors influencing or affected by it.
Materials and Methods: This systematic review was conducted by searching databases including Scopus, ISI, PubMed, ProQuest, SID, IranDoc, Magiran, and Google Scholar, using the keywords "students," "resilience," and "COVID-19" for the period starting from 2019. The PRISMA checklist and the AXIS tool were used for reporting and quality assessment of the studies.
Results: A total of 24 studies from Iran, Palestine, India, China, Turkey, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and Thailand were included in the review. Most studies reported normal to high levels of resilience among undergraduate nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results indicated associations between resilience and factors such as mental health, quality of life, academic conditions, and certain demographic variables.
Conclusion: Given the moderating role of resilience in mitigating the pandemic's negative impact on students' mental health and improving their quality of life—as well as the interplay of factors such as social support, academic variables, coping skills, and participation in COVID-19 prevention—it is essential for educational systems to foster these protective factors while simultaneously creating an environment that promotes resilience among nursing students.
